Today’s Local Music: Bobby McFerrin

Music by Bobby McFerrin

The distinctive sounds we’re featuring on today’s show are by Bobby McFerrin. He wasn’t born here, and he doesn’t live here, but Bobby McFerrin got his start here: his first public performance was at the Noe Valley Ministry, many years ago. McFerrin has a warning on his website: listening to his music may produce unparalleled joy and a rejection of the predictable. He’s in town a week from Saturday, March 30th, with the San Francisco Symphony for a special show at Davies Symphony Hall, starting at 8pm.

Today's Local Music: Sinister Dexter

What’s that you’re hearing? It’s Sinister Dexter, a horn-heavy funk and soul band from Mountain View. They've evolved over the years from swing and blues into funk and soul at the urging of their audience. They say their goal is to be “the local band that we would go out of our way to see ourselves.”

You can go out of your way to see them this Friday March 22 at Tupelo, in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood. Music begins around 8pm.

And now the International Narcotics Control Board is reminding the US that it is “obliged to ensure nationwide implementation” of drug laws "to which the United States is party." And that includes preventing recreational use of marijuana.
