Steven has been with KALW News since it’s beginnings in 2004. His history, art and public interest stories have won awards for Breaking News, Feature Writing and Explanatory Journalism. Some of his reports have aired nationally on NPR.

He is responsible for The Source, a recurring feature on the origins of Bay Area place names. He also researches most of the listings for the Crosscurrents local music calendar and compiles the weekly online Cannabis News Round-up.

What's that you're hearing?

It's music by members of the San Francisco Rock Project, who are all between eight and seventeen years old.

Members of the Project are on the program tomorrow night (11.06) at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, as part of their Election Night Party. Come hear the music -- or maybe get a massage. Both will help relieve the stress, as you cheer or boo the election results.

Hundreds of thousands pack downtown SF for Giants parade

Today was not just any ordinary Halloween. The holiday coincided with the San Francisco Giants' victory parade, celebrating the baseball team's sweep of the World Series that culminated last Sunday. The parade,  featured a performance by Tony Bennett and appearances by Jon Miller and Dave Flemming – and of course, the 2012 San Francisco Giants players, drew a crowd of hundreds of thousands.

Local Music: Mr. Kind

Today we're featuring the sounds of Oakland band Mr. Kind. Brian Bergeron, the leader of this group, is from Massachusetts, and he’s still amazed that you can go on tour, drive hundreds of miles, and still be in the same state! But before their California tour begins, the band is playing a special show tomorrow (November 1st) at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. Mr. Kind will be recreating Wilco’s “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” album, note for note.
