Audiograph: Behind the scenes of the Napa grape harvest

Field workers harvesting cabernet grapes in Napa Valley.

Napa County has been home to winemaking since before California was a part of the United States. Today the county is a major winemaking and grape growing region. More than five million people visit every year, flocking to wineries to taste the latest and buy special vintages.

Right now, it’s pruning season – when field workers spend weeks cutting back the vines, so they’ll produce the best grapes for the fall harvest.

Last fall, producer Julie Caine went up to Napa County to take us behind the scenes of during the most recent harvest. It’s part of Audiograph, our project documenting the Bay Area’s signature sounds, and the stories behind them.
