Audiograph's Sound of the Week: Dog Show at the Cow Palace
All week long we've been playing you this sound, and asking you to guess what exactly it is and where exactly in the Bay Area we recorded it.
This auditory guessing game is part of our new project, Audiograph, a crowd-sourced collaborative radio project mapping the sonic signature of each of the Bay Area’s nine counties. By using the sounds of voices, nature, industry, and music, Audiograph tells the story of where you live, and the people who live there with you. Every Thursday, we reveal the origins of that week's sound on Crosscurrents, and here in weekly blog posts. Did you have time to listen? Read on for the answer...
DANA BONETTI: So we're here at the Cow Palace today. We're showing. There's a two-day show.
SETH SAMUEL: Could you tell me about the dogs you have? There's three big dogs here.
SHANNON LOCKWOOD: We have bull mastiffs, which are from England. Originally. These two are sisters. We have Gerty and Summer and then we have a half sister, Tila.
DANA BONETTI: Summer, actually yesterday took winners and today Gertrude took winners.
MARK JOHNSTON: I have our two little dapples. One is Sarah and one is Patch. Miniature, longhair Dachshunds. They're nine months old.
SETH SAMUEL: I really love Dachshunds because I have a Dachshund at home in Atlanta.
MARK JOHNSTON: You only have one?
SETH SAMUEL: Only one.
MARK JOHNSTON: You can't only have one. They're like potato chips. You need more than that.
Thanks to Seth Samuel and Chris Hoff for recording those sounds. And congratulations to Adrian Calcody, who guessed the right answer. She’s now the proud owner of a brand new Crosscurrents t-shirt! We'll have a new sound for you to guess, and another chance to win next week.
