Bay Area Beats: Antique Naked Soul

Oakland's Antique Naked Soul describe themselves as a “beatbox-sing soul band,” which means they use only their own voices, looped on-stage, to create their sound, and their message.

JAYME BROWN: “We could just be at a podium shouting the messages that we have. But I think it's important for people to be able to groove to what is being said because it gets ingrained in you subconsciously. You’re feeling it in your body, not just what's being said, but movement to it as well. And then emotionally you're able to latch on to what's being said because it's speaking to you in a way that is more than just words alone.”

Antique Naked Soul will be the house band at the next Kamau Right Now! presented by KALW. It's Thursday, June 15th, at the New Parish in Oakland.

This piece originally aired on June 16, 2015.
