Bay Area Beats: Diana Gameros

Diana Gameros

Berkeley-based singer songwriter DianaGameroscomes from CiudadJuárez — a Mexican border town ripped apart by violent drug cartels. Gameros hasn’t been home in 13 years.

Her friends and family tell her things are getting better there, but she has to wait for her immigration status to get finalized before she can find out for herself. In the meantime, she's made the Bay Area her home, singing about the longing and joy that comes from having a life in two worlds at once.

GAMEROS: Being in California, with such high numbers of Latinos — of immigrants — inspired me to sing about the things that were personal, but also that other people could relate to.

The Diana Gameros Trio takes part in the Women in Music series at St. Cyprian’s Church in San Francisco on September 10th.
