Bay Area Muslim community leader reflects on Trump victory's effects

COURTESY OF CAIR - SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

Muslim leaders are easing the anxiety of their communities  today, who were the target of Donald Trump attacks all through his campaign. Earlier this afternoon a number of national Muslim organizations held a press conference in Washington DC led by CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations.

CAIR's National Executive Director Nihad Awad said: "To those who are fearful, know that America is your home, and the home of your children, you are not going anywhere. Rest assured CAIR is here for you and your children."

CAIR's Bay Area Executive Director is Zahra Billoo. KALW's Hana Baba talked to her today about what they're hearing and doing here in the Bay.

BILLOO: I think many were hoping to maybe get some rest on November 9th. But instead they are reminded that it's going to take a lot of work . . . to undo the damage done.

If you have experienced Anti-Muslim discrimination or have questions about your legal rights you can call the local CAIR office to report an incident at 408-986-9874, or contact them through their website
