Bay Area braces for "free speech" rallies this weekend

Officials in Berkeley and San Francisco are bracing themselves for competing political rallies planned for this weekend.

The violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, a couple weeks ago has heightened concern that these events will attract white supremacists and others looking to incite violence. KALW justice reporter Holly J. McDede is here to tell us what to expect.

UPDATE, Aug. 26: The rally in Crissy Field has been cancelled. The rally organizer initially moved the gathering to Alamo Square Park, but now says there will be an "indoor" news conference instead. The organizer for the "No to Marxism in America" event has now asked that people stay away from the rally planned in Berkeley on Sunday.
