California's wildfire 'season' may now be year-round

Cal OES
Controlled burn in Yolo County near Davis, CA

A massive wildfire that started over a week ago in the hills of Yolo and Napa counties is now 73 percent contained.

It’s forced evacuations and is threatening nearly 100 structures — while over the weekend, CalFire reported almost 10 more blazes across the state.

What was once called 'fire season' in California has only just begun, but some officials are saying early blazes are the new normal.

KALW’s environment reporter Angela Johnston has more.

"People used to say there was a fire season. Now they say fires can happen any month of the year, anytime, anyplace."
