The Bay Area is home to tons of ethnic and cultural dance companies and events. Many of these focus on honoring traditional forms of dance.

This weekend, artists from Latino and indigenous backgrounds who are doing contemporary work will come together at the fourth annual Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers. The pieces will explore how Latinx identity intersects with queerness, body image, immigration, and feminism.

KALW’s Jen Chien spoke with FLACC’s artistic director Liz Boubion and Catherine Marie Davalos one of the founding members, about this year’s festival and the theme, rest and unrest.

"My goal is always to increase Latinx audience, so I'm hoping that Latinas and Latinos see themselves on stage."

The Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers has been extended from November 10 to 12. Performances are at Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco.
