California is experiencing one of the worst droughts in years. As politicians try to figure out how to conserve more water, many have began pointing fingers at fracking for using large amounts of water. Fracking is the process that involves pumping water and chemicals under high pressure in order to release oil trapped in rock. They argue that fracking not only uses up water, but also poses risks to the state’s natural resources.
For every famous name in animal science — Jane Goodall, Ivan Pavlov, Charles Darwin — there are easily 100 scientists you’ve never heard of, including Gail Hedberg, a retiring senior veterinary technician at San Francisco Zoo. Ninety percent of her job entails working in the zoo’s hospital, but the other ten percent is pretty different. Hedberg wrote the book on hand-rearing baby exotic animals.
The band you’re hearing now is the Joyful Noise Jazz Band from Pinole. They’re playing on Saturday, July 20th, at the annual Radio Day by the Bay. This event brings together the California Historical Radio Society, the Bay Area Radio Museum, and the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. It all takes place at the historic KRE Radio Building, just off the Ashby Avenue exist of I-80 in Berkeley.
