First Days: Hossain Zaré Khiabani

Hossain Zaré Khiabani, a chef and restaurant owner in San Francisco, talks about his first days in the US after arriving from Iran. (Photo: Monica Campbell)"

There are immigrant communities all over the Bay Area - from Eritreans living in North Oakland, to South Asian communities in Fremont, to immigrants from Central American in San Francisco’s Mission District. This week, we’re bringing you the stories of some of those people’s first days here.

San Francisco is home to Hossain Zaré Khiabani,  who was born in Iran. He's the owner of the restaurant The Flytrap in San Francisco.

Food, it was shocking. Especially the meat. Rare, medium rare, bloody.
