Your Call

How should the Bay Area tackle inequality and poverty?

On this edition of Your Call, Richard Walker returns for another discussion about Pictures of a Gone City: Tech and the Dark Side of Prosperity in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The glittering surface of Silicon Valley doesn’t reflect the struggles of low-income people, seniors, and people of color. While a select few benefit from the area’s prosperity, everyone else grapples with a crushing housing crisis, rampant inequality, unstable jobs, and endless commutes. Why hasn’t this rising tide lifted all boats? How can we create a more equitable future?

Guest:

Richard Walker, professor emeritus of geography at UC Berkeley, chair of the campus’s California Studies Center, and author of Pictures of a Gone City
