According to a report by the San Francisco Rent Board, efforts to evict tenants are at a ten-year high, with more than 2,000 eviction notices filed in 2015.
Those people can find help at the San Francisco Tenants Union.
Ted Gullicksen led the non-profit for more than two decades, until he passed away in October 2014. This month, Deepa Varma took the helm of the organization. She sat down with KALW’s Audrey Dilling to talk about the experiences she’s bringing to the role.
DEEPA VARMA: I think that our protections are as strong as they have been since I've been working on tenant rights. It's one of those times when everybody is talking about tenant rights and ... improving their knowledge of the issues. But, of course, that's because the pressure is on.
