On November 23, 2012, four black teenagers pulled into a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida to buy gum and cigarettes. Michael Dunn, a white middle aged man, and his fiancée, pulled in next to them in the parking lot. Dunn demanded they turn down the rap music they were playing. After exchanging angry words, Dunn pulled his gun out of his glove box and shot at their car 10 times. He hit 17-year-old Jordan Davis, who died at the scene.
After the shooting, Dunn and his fiancée, who was in the store when the shooting happened, went to a hotel and ate pizza. He never called police. Arrested the next day, Dunn claimed he shot at the car in self-defense.
"3 ½ Minutes, Ten Bullets," looks back at the killing with a focus on the devastating effects of racial bias and the search for justice.
