KALW's On-Air Folk Festival this Saturday 3 to 8 pm

KALW's Saturday music hosts join forces to present a five-hour folk extravaganza of continuous live music performed  by some of the Bay Area's finest talent.   Enjoy the Scottish fiddling of Alasdair Fraser, the powerhouse vocals of Teresa Trull and Barbara Higbie, the original songs of Caren Armstrong, and the homegrown bluegrass of Them Boys and the Sycamore Slough String Band.  Here's the schedule:

3:00 pm  Alasdair Fraser & his Scottish Fiddlers
Alasdair Fraser was our very first live performer back in 1989.  He's making a return appearance to the KALW studios after a 23 year absence ....and bringing his fiddling friends with him!

4:00 pm  Teresa Trull & Barbara Higbie
It's not often we get to see powerhouse vocalist Teresa Trull, since she moved away to New Zealand.  Teresa is making one of her rare Bay Area appearances and is performing with pianist Barbara Higbie for what promises to be an energetic and exciting reunion!

5:00 pm  Caren Armstrong & Friends

Bay Area singer-songwriter Caren Armstrong hosts the monthly concert series Celebrating Songwriters.  She and two other fine ballad-makers, John Haley Walker and Matt Lax,  will participate in a songwriter's workshop of the airwaves.

6:30 pm  Sycamore Slough String Band

Bluegrasstreatments of Grateful Dead songs by David Gans, David Thom, Dave Muhlethaler, and Roget Sideman.

7:15 pm - Dix Bruce & Julie Cline

This dynamic guitar and mandolin duo sing and play a wonderful mixture of bluegrass, Americana, and original music. You'll hear influences from a variety of genres, but it's all music from the true vine.
