This week on Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with multi-disciplinary choreographer Raissa Simpson, founder and artistic director of the San Francisco-based PUSH Dance Company, about the upcoming edition of PUSHfest, a mixed genre showcase of dance works by mid-career to emerging choreographers, September 22-24 at ODC Theater in San Francisco.
This new season of PUSHfest features three world premieres, including Mothership (Part II) by artistic director Raissa Simpson, and new works by Mary Carbonara, Kao Vey Saephanh and Katerina Wong.
From San Francisco Symphony’s season-long celebration of the 100th birthday of composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), we meet with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and bass-baritone Ryan McKinney, who are performing in this weekend’s ‘Bernstein Centennial’ concert. On the program: ‘Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs’; ‘Chichester Psalms’; ‘Arias and Barcarolles’; and the Symphonic Dances from ‘West Side Story’.
