Noel Coward Birthday Special on Open Air, Thursday 12/22 at 1pm

For this year's thirtieth annual Noel Coward Birthday Special, host Alan Farley offers a retrospective of past celebrations.  Highlights include: Graham Payn on how he first met Coward, and how Noel wrote “Matelot” for him him; Elaine Stritch on how Coward discovered her and starred her in “Sail Away” on Broadway and in London; David Attenborough on visiting the set of “In Which We Serve,” in which his brother Richard played a leading role; and playwright Neil Simon on how Coward was instrumental in his career.  Thursday at 1pm.

In Memoriam (1936-2012): KALW lost an important voice for the arts in the Bay Area, our senior announcer, Alan Farley, in October of 2012. Alan’s diagnosis and subsequent passing of pancreatic and liver cancer was sudden, and a shock to all of us here at KALW.
