North Carolina music on Bluegrass Signal

Sat., Oct. 10th (6:30 - 8:00 pm) on Bluegrass Signal: a musical overview of The Piedmont Melody Makers, who have several area shows next week.

Taking their name from the Piedmont region of eastern North Carolina where three-quarters of the band now reside, they play old time, country, and bluegrass, and make no apologies for it. They are:
- Alice Gerrard, half of the legendary and highly influential Hazel & Alice and longtime practitioner of powerful old time music, who continues to grow as a songwriter while remaining a commanding singer and musician; her most recent album hit #1 on the folk-dj charts and was nominated for a Grammy.
- Chris Brashear, longtime collaborator with Peter McLaughlin and member of Robin & Linda Williams & Their Fine Band, who’s also a terrific singer and songwriter and a member of the Perfect Strangers with Jody Stecher.
- Jim Watson, who's delighted music lovers for many years with the original Red Clay Ramblers, Robin & Linda, and others, and is the heir-apparent to Charlie Poole as THE exponent of North Carolina hillbilly music.
- Cliff Hale, who was bit by the bluegrass and old time bugs while attending West Virginia University, and now sounds like a profound blend of Hank Williams, Carter Stanley, and Lefty Frizzell.

Featured: several tracks from the band's as-yet-unreleased album!
