The dancer Spulu has made a name for himself both as an artist and an activist. Drawing from his Pacific Islander heritage and love of hip-hop, he communicates his passion for social justice through his choreography style.
In 2014 he created a dance performance called Black vs. Blue, which addressed the issue of police violence against people of color. Spulu talked with KALW’s Jen Chien about the importance of art in movements for social change.
Spulu will be participating in Queer Fashion Week in Oakland Sept 28-Oct 2nd.
