Returning Home: Voices from the Front

What is it like to be a student who has fought in a war? In this special production from the Stanford Storytelling Project, six students and alumni, all veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, tell their stories.

With thoughtfulness, humor, and stone cold honesty, they share with us their decision to join, their experiences in boot camp, living and fighting in Iraq, and their eventual return home to civilian and student life.

"You’ve had such an increase in bandwidth. You know what it is like to see a little girl exploded into little parts. And then you know what it is like to give somebody their freedom. You know what it is like to see a well work for the first time, in a village, and have them love you. And then you know what it is like to have a friend one day and the next day you’re putting them in something that is black and has white letters that says pouch, human remains."

"Returning Home: Voices from the Front," was produced in 2012 by Xandra Clark and Natacha Ruck for the Stanford Storytelling Project.

Original music composed by Eoin Callery. Featuring the voices of veterans Dustin Barfield, Chris Clark, Josh Francis, Annie Hsieh, Russ Toll and William Treseder. Also featuring the voice of Heidi Toll, wife of Russ Toll.
