Duboce Park is the number one park for many dog owners in San Francisco. Located in the Lower Haight, the park is conveniently found next to the N Judah train, in a densely populated area filled with seniors and families. This is a happy place where dogs come to play while their owners chitchat. It is their place, and they have made it so.
San Francisco has a celebrated park culture. Grassy green fields can be found in almost every part of the city, and each of these places has its own story to tell. The story of Duboce Park dates back to 1902 when the park had just been founded. Dog owners came together to defy the city’s’ leash laws, and for the first time in dog history, a group of canines ran wild and free in Lower Haight. The City’s Parks and Rec department heard their roars, loud and clear, and gave in to the request. Little did those pooches know they were making history.
Today, there are nearly 60 off leash areas in and around San Francisco and the city has come to be known for its loving and liberal mentality towards humans' best friends.
