This week on Open Air, guest host Kevin Vance has conversations with Jeffrey Thomas, Music Director of the American Bach Soloists, about the ABS Festival & Academy from August 7-16 at the SF Conservatory of Music, and including the first complete performances in North-America of the opera Semele by French composer Marin Marais (1656 – 1728). Also with cellist Hannah Addario-Berry, who joins us in the studio to discuss her upcoming Scordatura Project, for which she commissioned four young composers to write a new piece for solo cello in response to one of the most important works in the solo cello repertoire: Zoltan Kodaly's seminal Sonata for Solo Cello from 1915. Composer Lisa Renee Coons joins her to discuss her composition 'Myth's Daughter', one of the new works. Plus, regular contributor Janos Gereben highlights a number of upcoming and ongoing musical events in the Bay Area.
