Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Gina Gold, filmmaker and actor and host of TMI Storytelling, told KALW’s Jen Chien about three cool arts events happening around the Bay this weekend.
- BustingOut Storytelling: Are We There Yet? at Geoffrey's Inner Circle in Oakland on 9/23.
- Bawdy Storytelling: Trigger Warning at the Verdi Club in San Francisco on 9/22.
- Fruitvale Fridays with Aya de Leon and Kwan Booth at Nomadic Press in Oakland on 9/23.
BustingOut Storytelling is a monthly storytelling series featuring true stories with 'just the right amount of bounce.' This Friday's event will feature stories about road trips, vacations, or any kind of travel. In addition to the stories, there will be music, a full bar, and food for sale at Geoffrey's Inner Circle.
GOLD: I remember coming to the Bay Area, and Geoffrey's was the big thing. Everyone was going to Geoffrey's, and it's a really beautiful historical building. It's actually gorgeous.
Bawdy Storytelling is a storytelling series, hosted by Dixie De La Tour, that celebrates true stories about sex. Trigger Warning is a pre-event for the Folsom Street Fair, and performers will share tales about all kind of fetishes. There will also be games, drinks, and more at the Verdi Club.
GOLD: [Dixie] just has that skill of drawing out you telling the best story that you possibly can.
Aya de Leon and Kwan Booth will both perform readings at Nomadic Press on Friday, 9/23, as part of the Fruitvale Friday series. They'll be joined by musical guest Lani Grooves, and wine and Red Bay Coffee will be available.
GOLD: I did a reading at Nomadic Press. It's so cute, and it's a little press that publishes just the best work by some really awesome local artists.
