Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Joshua Raoul Brody, musician and member of BATS Improv Group, which has two shows this weekend at Bayfront Theatre, told KALW’s Jen Chien about three cool arts events happening around the Bay this weekend:

Reed Kirk Rahlmann presents SF Magic Undergroundevery Thursday night at the Shelton Theater in San Francisco. Each week, mentalist, Sebastian Boswell III performs with a rotating roster of special guests. This week, he’s joined by Otis the Magician.

BRODY: Every trick, every stunt he does is amazing.

Feinstein’s at the Nikko presents a Concert Production of MAME running Thursday, 8/11 through Saturday, 8/13. Mame is about moneyed, free spirit, Mame Dennis, who raises her nephew, Patrick, after he is orphaned at age 10. This 50th anniversary celebration of the musical, directed by Allen Sawyer and Joe Wicht, features singing by Meg Mackay and Sharon McNight, with narration and cast stories by Darlene Popovic.

BRODY: You’ll get these wonderful songs performed by amazing singers, accompanied by the wonderful Joe [Wicht].

Maurice Tani and 77 El Deora are at Thee Parkside in San Francisco on 8/7 for Original Famous Twang Sundays. Tani and his band have been kicking around the Bay Area alternative country scene for over 10 years. Their signature sound is modern country with lyricism that describes the depths of human emotion.

BRODY: His singing is so soulful, heartfelt, and considered.
