Sights & Sounds Weekly: 10/15/15

Lisa Keating
George Chen, Writer/Comedian

Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. This week, our guest is George Chen: writer, comedian, and host of the weekly comic showcase Cynic Cave at Lost Weekend Video.

Chen told KALW's Jen Chien about three cool arts events around the Bay this weekend.

Now through Saturday 10/17, Really Funny Comedians (Who Happen to Be Women) is at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco. This three-night show features a rotating list of comedians including Jessica Sele, Lydia Popovich, Clara Bijl, Carla Clayy, and Ester Steinberg.

CHEN: What I appreciate about Jessica Sele is that she is incredibly vulnerable on stage, and she really puts so much of herself out there.

Untitled, 2015, Mrzyk & Moriceau

Until Saturday, 10/24, Everything Butt, an exhibition of new drawings by Mrzyk and Moriceau, is at Ratio 3 gallery. The French artist team uses their comic illustrative style to poke fun at human body parts and anthropomorphized objects.

CHEN: These very funny black and white drawings, with erotic undertones, are like one-liners.

On Friday 10/16, Violence Creeps plays at  Hemlock Tavern. This Oakland-based punk band and their signature distorted sound will rock the house along with other bands Life Stinks, Uffizi, and the Cuntz.

CHEN: I enjoy this sludgy, abject, kinda depressing vibe to the music, and I just thought they were a band that more people should know about.
