Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. Our guest is Donna Sachet: drag entertainer, San Francisco personality and creator of the annual Songs of the Season benefit cabaret.
Sachet gave KALW’s Chris Hambrick her recommendations for three cool events happening this week around the Bay.
Tenderloin Tessie Holiday Dinners (TTHD) serves a Thanksgiving meal today 11/26, at First Unitarian Church in San Francisco. TTHD is a volunteer organization that serves free and open-to-all dinners on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year’s event includes a holiday music variety show featuring Vanessa Bousay, Marc Sanders and Michael Gagne.
SACHET: It’s a warm, friendly, family kind of thing for people who may not have family.
Flagger Realness happens on Sunday 11/29, in Jane Warner Plaza in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood. Attendees wave colorful, wing-like flags along to dance music played by area DJ’s.
SACHET: It’s high-energy and happy.
On Monday 11/30, the National Aids Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park presents Light in the Grove. This year’s annual outdoor gala is timed for the eve of World AIDS Day and features music, cocktails, light displays and space for reflection and remembrance.
SACHET: This is just a very, very special event. There are all kinds of light effects and symbolic dance. The trees have names running up them and there are fireflies in the sky.
