Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. Our guest is Christian Cagigal: magician and co-founder of the Fog City Magic Festival.
Cagigal told KALW’s Jen Chien about three cool arts events happening this week around the Bay.
The play Of Serpents and Sea Spray runs tonight, 1/28, through Saturday, 1/30, at Custom Made Theatre. The plot follows Iro, an orphan who goes on an imaginative voyage to find Pegasus after she witnesses a horrible event.
CAGIGAL: When something is dark and fantastical, it’s just fun to watch.
Blue House Arts presents Cloud Tectonics at The Thick House in San Francisco until Saturday, 1/30. Set in the middle of a storm, this play introduces the pregnant Celestina del Sol to brothers Aníbal and Nelson de la Luna. Together the three journey along the space-time continuum.
CAGIGAL: It's boy meets girl in a magical bungalow in Los Angeles.
SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts presents the Winter Theatre Festival (WTF) now through Saturday, 2/6, at Great Star Theatre in San Francisco’s Chinatown. WTF features performances by Bay Area-based groups Caminos Flamencos, BodiGram Dance, Fou Fou Ha, and Anna and the Annadroids.
CAGIGAL: Yes, there's dance, there's music, and there’s some crazy clown show and a knock-you-off-your-socks feminist avant garde thing. It's exactly what you should be getting from San Francisco at all times.
