It’s Friday afternoon and the weekend is just hours away. In case you’re not prepared, we have a few suggested events happening around the Bay Area tonight through Sunday.
This evening, the labyrinth at the Grace Cathedral will ring with modern orchestral music from the Meerenai Shim Quartet along with Qualia Choir. There will also be audio/visual collaborations presented by Gabriel Dunne and Stephanie Sherriff, and more. All performances this evening aim to explore the interconnections between ourselves and built structures, including physical behavior of sound and light within Grace Cathedral itself. Angry ghosts are disrupting business at a tech startup based in the Tenderloin, and the company's young CEO hired a Santeria priest to purify the office. This isn’t a headline, but it is a plot point in the play, “CampoMaldito,” now playing at the Tenderloin’s Exit Theatre through August 13th. If you’re a resident of the Tenderloin, there’s a chance you’ll qualify for a free ticket to the show. You don’t need a time machine to take you back to the late 1800’s, because this Saturday, Alameda’s Lincoln Park will be transformed into an Edwardian picnic and dance party. You’re invited to bring your own picnic spread: food, beverages, and of course, a blanket. Late Victorian or Edwardian costume is also admired but not required, and make sure to bring shoes you can dance in. The picnic goes from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1540 High Street in Alameda.
