On the October 21st, 2014 edition of Your Call, we'll have a debate about Prop 47, which would reduces the classification of nonserious and nonviolent property and drug crimes from a felony to a misdemeanor. Proponents say money spent incarcerating nonviolent felons would be better spent on social programs providing mental health and drug-treatment. Opponents say Prop 47 fails to punish potentially dangerous felons and will burden the criminal justice system. Where do you stand on proposition 47? It's Your Call, with Rose Aguilar, and you.
Guests:
Mark Peterson, District Attorney for Contra Costa County, who opposes the proposition
Lenore Anderson, attorney and executive director of Californians for Safety and Justice, a nonprofit that works to promote alternative criminal justice strategies, who supports the initiative
