Marsha Rosenbaum joins Carol to give an update on California's new drug law and suggest how parents can speak with their children about drugs.  Marsha is director emerita of the San Francisco office of the Drug Policy Alliance, where she spearheaded DPA's work on youth and drugs and created the Safety First booklet.

Carol talks with Kathleen White about the teacher shortage and what City College of San Francisco is doing to help.  The City College Teacher Prep Center provides information, resources and advice for students interested in teaching as a career. This includes assistance with university transfer for advanced degrees as well as support to obtain elementary, secondary and CTE credentials.

Jill is the past president of the California School Boards Association and the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education.

Eric Rice, Director of College & Career Pathways in the San Francisco Unified School District, joins Carol to share a new way of learning in high schools.  Courses stress hands-on, project-based lea

rning to provide a more authentic, real-world educational and work-based learning experience for students.

According to the California Center for College and Career, "Pathways that link learning with student interests and career preparation lead to higher graduation rates, increased college enrollments and higher earning potential."

Sandy Sohcot, director of " The World As It Could Be", joins Carol to discuss how students learn about human rights.  Their programs use the creative arts to deepen learning about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  They give youth the voice to teach their peers and adults about the importance of these concepts.

Carol visits Dr. Martin Luther King Middle School in San Francisco and learns about the PAX Good Behavior Game, a prevention tool that classroom teachers use to improve the lifetime outcomes for each student.  Joining Carol are Michael Essien, principal, and Tracy Nick, SFUSD Safe and Supportive Schools coach.
