Out in the Bay - Gay Radio from San Francisco

Queer histories, herstories, personalities and issues are explored with humor, insight, and sensitivity each week on Out in the Bay.  We've been called “the gay Fresh Air” and even "the gay Tavis Smiley." We’ve interviewed such celebrities as film directors Ang Lee and John Waters, comedians Margaret Cho and Marga Gomez, singers Leslie Gore and Michael Feinstein,  actors, authors and more.  We’ve also featured historians, scholars, and activists -- including Phyllis Lyon and the late Del Martin -- with compelling stories about the reality of LGBT life.

Pollo Del Mar, drag entrepeneur

Pride is just around the corner so let's have some fun! Marilyn takes a look at "Gay Days" in amusement parks. Disneyworld was first in '91 and the right wing boycotted them for 8 years. Do we still need them? Her guest is drag star Pollo Del Mar, who's producing "Pride Night" at Great America Friday, May 24th, in Santa Clara, CA. She's got TV host Wendy Williams, Glee's Alex Newell ("Unique"), and lots of other entertainment and fun planned.  Broadcast and streaming live, Thursday, May 9th, 2013, at 7pm Pacific.

Giving Out: Philanthropy still low in current tech boom

Less than 5 percent of LGBT people give directly to LGBT causes. Why is that? In the midst of another tech boom, why do Bay Area non-profits -- gay and straight -- still struggle?  How might they tap into the “new young money”?  How much can social media help?  Give OUT Day, a new national experiment in online giving for LGBT causes, debuts May 9.  Eric Jansen's expert guests on Out in the Bay are Jodi Schwartz of LYRIC, a non-profit serving queer and questioning youth in San Francisco for more than 20 years; Roger Doughty of Horizons Foundation, the Bay Area’s LGBT foundation; and Noris Chavarría of Bolder Giving, creator of Give OUT Day.
