Three Engineers, No Degree (airs Oct. 28, 2012)

Engineering is one of today's few fields with a good job market. But the long, hard degree requirements are daunting. The good news is that more than a few successful engineers, or at least people who do engineering, don't have a degree. On the Oct. 28, 2012 edition of Work with Marty Nemko, I'll talk with three of them.

And as usual, you can call in for a three-minute career makeover, a WorkOver.

Work with Marty Nemko is heard Sundays from 11 am to noon on 91.7 FM, KALW, San Francisco.

The Art of Ethical Selling in 2013 and Beyond (airs 10/21/12)

I hate being sold to but recent reports are that, alas, sales is one of the few growing occupations. So I thought it only right that I devote a segment of one edition of Work with Marty Nemko to the art of ethical selling. That will be Oct 21, 2012 at 11 am.

Careers Serving Muslims: A Fast-Growing Need (airs on Work with Marty Nemko, 10/7/12)

Muslims may be the fastest-growing group in America--expected to double by 2030 to 6.2 million in the U.S., 120 million in the Bay Area alone, 1.1 billion worldwide.

I offered opinions on addressing issues related to Muslims in the workplace, ideas for careers and businesses that serve Muslims, and ideas on how best to appeal to Muslim consumers. Plus I did three-minute career makeovers on callers.

Work with Marty Nemko is heard Sundays from 11 am to noon on KALW, 91.7 FM San Francisco.

Is Disparate Impact Theory Good for the Workplace? For America? (Work w Marty Nemko, airs 9/23/12)

Is the Disparate Impact Theory good for the workplace? For America?  The theory holds that if a racial group is underrepresented in a workplace, it is evidence that the workplace is practicing discrimination, even if there is no overt evidence of discrimination.

On the  Sep. 23, 2012 edition of Work with Marty Nemko, two expert employment attorneys will debate the question. Jim Finberg, partner at Altshuler Berzon will argue for it. Fred Alvarez, partner at Wilson Soncini will argue against it. Callers will then be invited to weigh in.
