Your Call Weekly Kudos: Sept, 5th 2014

Sep 5, 2014

Every week on Your Call's Friday Media Roundtable, we ask the journalists on our panel to recommend great reporting they've seen this week.

This week we spoke with:

Lee Fang, investigative fellow at the Nation Institute and co-founder of Republic Report.

Dave Levinthal, senior reporter at the Center for Public Integrity

Martin Chulov, Middle East correspondent for the Guardian

On the September 5th edition of Your Call, it’s our Friday media roundtable. This week, we’ll discuss the money trail in the midterm election cycle. According to the Center for Public Integrity, one out of every 10 ads running have ties to the Koch Brothers. We will also talk about the rise of ISIS in Syria. We’ll be joined by Republic Report’s Lee Fang, the Center for Public Integrity’s Dave Levinthal, and the Guardian’s MartinChulov. Join the conversation on the next Your Call, with Rose Aguilar and you

On the September 4th edition of  Your Call, we’ll have a conversation with Astra Taylor author of “The People’s Platform: Taking Back Power and Culture in the Digital Age.” The book argues that for all that we "tweet" and "like" and "share," the Internet in fact reflects real-world economic and cultural hierarchies. What would a democratic Internet look like? And how should we get there? Join the conversation on the next Your Call, with Rose Aguilar, and you.

Astra Taylor, documentary filmmaker, writer, and musician

On the September 3rd, 2014 edition of Your Call, we’ll have a conversation with current and former foster care youth about their experiences. On any given day, there are approximately 397,000 children in foster care in the United States. 60,000 are in California. On average, children remain in state care for nearly two years, but some remain in the system for five or more. What changes would foster youth like to change? How can ordinary citizens help transform the foster care system? It’s Your Call, with Holly Kernan, and you.

On the September 2nd, 2014 edition of Your Call, we'll have a conversation about the bills
that have recently passed in the California state legislature. These bills would affect everything from healthcare and paid sick leave to sexual harassment to plastic bags. Governor Jerry Brown has until the end of September to either sign or veto legislation. He recently signed legislation to put a $7.5 billion water bond before voters. What  bills are you following? It's Your Call, with Rose Aguilar, and you.
