On this week's "Open Air," KALW’s weekly magazine of arts and cultural events, guest host David Latulippe visits with the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, the flute/guitar duo Black Cedar, which is guitarist Steve Lin and multi-flutist Kris Palmer, and with soprano Melody Moore, who is singing this week with the New Century Chamber Orchestra.  (Originally broadcast 9/20/12.  Listen here now.)

"A Hungarian Excursion"- Guest Conductor Edwin Outwater, with soprano soloist Jessica Rivera and the San Francisco Girls Chorus present the World Premiere of Gabriela Lena Frank's "Holy Sisters." Also on the program: Kodály's "Dances of Galánta" and Bartók's "Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta."  David Latulippe is guest host.   Sunday from 4-6pm.  (Bullseye and Selected Shorts return next week.)

I learned about "tighty whities" in America thanks to Calvin Klein.
It was only after I came back to India that I encountered the dark side of the tighty whitey. I always knew Indians had an obsession with fairness. But I have to admit I was a little taken aback to find that in the new India you could lighten not just your face, or your arms but also your very very private parts.......
