Today's Local Music: Yonat & Her Muse

band website

What’s that you’re hearing? It’s the sound of Yonat & Her Muse. Singer Yonat Mayer has been compared to Nora Jones, and Adele, but she probably prefers you consider her on her own. The band is currently recording an album in the Oakland hills, but they also like to get out of the studio. They have two shows scheduled this week, on both sides of the bridge.

Yonat & Her Muse will be at the Bottom of the Hill club in San Francisco on Friday (08.31).Doors open at 9pm. Then on Sunday (09.01), they’ll be at the Starry Plough in Berkeley. That one starts about 9:30pm.

Today's Local Music: Paula Frazer

Paula Frazer began singing in the church choir, where her father was a preacher. Her mother taught her piano and introduced her to the worldly music of George Gershwin and Billie Holiday.  She credits them, along with rocker Nick Cave, as influences in her own sound.   Paula Frazer opens for Will Sprott and the Mumlers this Thursday, August 30th. This will be the last of this year’s summer concerts in the redwood grove at the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens.
