Project: Lohan is a multi-media theatrical event about the life of Lindsay Lohan, who went from pre-teen Disney starlet to convicted felon in less than a decade. It's a mad dash through Lohan's rise and fall ordeal, told by 6 cross-dressing actors playing 5 dozen characters in 90 minutes with 172 costume changes! The script is all text found in tabloids, TV news, court transcripts, 911 calls and the like. Why is our society so obsessed with fallen Hollywood idols?

Berlioz Requiem ~ "Warhorse"

This week on Open Air, Alan talks with author Michael Morpurgo, who wrote the original story that is the basis for the play Warhorse, and with conductor Eric Kujawsky (pictured), who is leading a performance of the Berlioz Requiem this weekend at Davies Symphony Hall, a performance that will feature a 200+ voice chorus and large orchestra.  Airs 8/2 at 1pm.  Listen anytime until 8/9 via KALW's Local Music Player.

A Bay Area fencer slashes her way to the Olympics

Up until last week, the legendary sword-fighting scene in The Princess Bride—where Inigo Montoya and ‘the man in black’ show off their skills on a mountaintop—pretty much summed up my fencing knowledge.

“You seem a decent fellow, I hate to kill you,” Montoya says.

“You seem a decent fellow, I hate to die,” responds the man in black.

The music picks up, followed by the sharp clanking of swords and it’s all pretty dramatic and entertaining.
