This week on Open Air, guest host Judith Seeger talks with Charlotte Moraga, artistic director of the newly formed Chitresh Das Institute, about this weekend’s inaugural season of the institute, featuring the world premiere of ‘The Art of Kathak’, a traditional Kathak solo performance by Charlotte Moraga, accompanied by tabla master Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, who will also join us in the studio.

This week on Open Air, guest host Judith Seeger talks with cellist Tanya Tomkins and pianist Eric Zivian about the upcoming Valley of the Moon Music Festival, of which they are co-founders, and artistic and music directors, respectively. Also joining in the studio is clarinetist Eric Hoeprich - and there will be live music!

This week on Open Air, guest host Kevin Vance talks with actor and writer Dan Hoyle about his one-man show ‘The Real Americans’, an account of a three month-trip across the U.S. in search of the true meaning of America and what it means to be American, currently at The Marsh SF in an updated version. Also, a conversation with journalist/playwright Sarah Shourd, who survived 410 days of solitary confinement as a political hostage in Iran in 2009/10 and created ‘The Box’, a piece of transformational theater about that experience, currently at Z Space in San Francisco. We will hear from Artistic Director Amy Mueller about the Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2016; she brings along Walt McGough, one of the participating playwrights. Plus, regular contributor and critic at large Peter Robinson shines his reviewing light on cultural events around the Bay Area.

This week on Open Air, guest host Kevin Vance talks to actress  Cassie Silva, who plays the part of Mrs. Wormwood in 'Matilda, the Musical', currently at the SHN Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. Also, a conversation with Bay Area Playwrights Festival producer Karen Altree Piemme about the 38th edition of the Festival, and with playwright Kara Lee Corthron, whose play 'Welcome to Fear City' is one of the seven finalists being performed at the Festival. Plus, cellist and founding Artistic Director David Finckel shares details about the 13th Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival and Institute, which focuses on the music of Franz Schubert, with fifty events on three stages in Atherton and Menlo Park.
