Today’s local music is by Dirty Cello.  They say they play cello "like you've never heard before." This is NOT classical cello, as you can hear now.  Dirty Cello is taking part in the Corte Madera Town Center concert series on Sunday (07.12). They'll be on stage at 5pm.

Today’s local music is by Dirty Cello.  They say they play cello "like you've never heard before." This isn't classical cello, as you can hear now.  This Saturday, June 20, Dirty Cello is taking part in the 2015 San Francisco Free Folk Festival. The festival is only one day this year, and it has a new location: St. Cyprian’s Church on Turk Street in San Francisco. The event takes place from noon until 10pm.

What is it with all the non-traditional cello players in this area? Well, whatever it is, Dirty Cello, who you’re hearing now, is a purveyor of the style.  Dirty Cello has played throughout the world, but you only have to go as far as Fairfax to hear them this week. They’re at The Garage on Thursday (02.26), where the motto is “Shop Local, Party Local, Enjoy Local.” Music starts at 7pm.

What is it about cello players in the Bay Area? There must be more of them in “crossover” bands here than anywhere else in the country. Case in point: the Dirty Cello band, who you’re hearing now. They offer soulful blues and gypsy swing. Think of it as Yo-Yo Ma meets B.B. King.

Dirty Cello will be at the Oakland location of District restaurant on Thursday, September 12th. The fun begins about 8:00pm.
