Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Multidisciplinary artist Yetunde Olagbaju told KALW’s Jen Chien about three awesome events happening around the Bay this weekend.

Our roundup of suggested events to check out this weekend around the Bay Area.

We regularly hear about high rollers, but how about Low Rollers?  Well, that’s who you’re hearing now.

The Low Rollers will be playing their hometown of San Francisco on Wednesday (01.28) at El Rio.  And just so you know, Colin Peden, a member of this band, is also a current member of the “Crosscurrents” Audio Academy. Other Academy members may be there, too, so come see if you can figure out who’s who.  Music starts about 8pm.

22nd Annual Kung Pao Kosher Comedy

Dec 18, 2014

"What are Jews supposed to do on Christmas?"  Eric Jansen's guest on Out in the Bay Thursday night, comic Lisa Geduldig, says it's an age-old question that she answered 21 years ago with her now annual show Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Jewish comedians telling jokes in a Chinese restaurant on Christmas, Christmas Eve, and this year, Boxing Day, too. Two shows nightly this year feature NPR program host Ophira Eisenberg,14-year-old Simon Cadel (Kung Pao's youngest comic ever), Jeremy Hotz and Lisa Geduldig, who also serves as Master of Ceremonies.  Hear a taste of all four comedians on tonight's Out in the Bay, and about Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's history and a little bit of San Francisco's queer history from producer Geduldig. (Airs 7pm Thursday, Dec. 18.)

Today's Local Music: Electrician

Jan 31, 2013

For those of you who couldn’t care less about football, check out the “F*&@ the Superbowl Show" at El Rio in the Mission this Sunday, February 3. Among the performers are two Bay Area bands...The Oakland-based band Electrician is an electro-folk project, creating shadowy songs about social war, relationships, and discontent. Neil Campau, the mind behind Electrician, is returning from a 2.5 month tour of the US. San Francisco-based musician Michael Beach will also be playing the show, thus opting to "F*&@ the Superbowl"!
