Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir live on Fog City Blues

Ahead of their 29th annual Holiday Concert at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, members of the choir join host Devon Strolovitch for a live in-studio performance on Fog City Blues this Wednesday, December 3 at 9 pm.

Elliot Smith Hour live on Fog City Blues this Wednesday

Roger Kim's Elliott Smith Hour began as a tribute to Elliott Smith, the late singer songwriter revered for the quiet, but cutting introspection of his lyrics and music. The project has since evolved into an acoustic chamber music group covering a wide variety of musical matter, featuring arrangements of originals and pop, classical, and modern jazz music. They join host Devon Strolovitch live in the studio this Wednesday 10/15 at 9 pm.

Shun Ng was born in Chicago, raised in Singapore, and is now based out of Boston. He is a gifted guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his unique style of playing that fuses elements of Funk, Blues and Jazz. The View From Bernal Hill is Camille Mai on composition/piano/voice, Nahuel Bronzini on guitar and production, and Schuyler Karr on bass. Based in San Francisco, they approach jazz and indie rock with a chamber music mindset, performing mostly original songs that intertwine jazz harmonies with odd rhythms and classically influenced improvisations. They join host Devon Strolovitch to perform live on this week's show.

This week Fog City Blues revisits an interview with Bay Area blues harp legend Rick Estrin, who performs this weekend in Redwood City and Seaside. Rick talks to host Devon Strolovitch about his early days in the Bay Area blues scene and plays tunes from some of the greats he met as an up-and-comer. We'll also hear tracks from the brand new album by Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, You Asked For It...

Fog City Blues is off this week, but Mark Naftalin returns with a special two-hour broadcast of the Blues Power Hour. The first hour will include musical tributes to two recently-departed musical greats: composer-pianist Horace Silver and vocal balladeer extraordinaire Jimmy Scott.  The second hour will feature a “45 Party” (the “45” is a medium of recorded sound, in this case, not a firearm).  Blues Power Hour with Mark Naftalin ~ Wednesday, 7/02 at 9 pm.

The Public Radio Party continues Wednesday night with a special 3-hour Fog City Blues. North Bay quintet Beso Negro return to play songs from their latest release, Burn It Down. One of the performances from their last visit is featured on "Live From the City Blues Vol.1," which is available exclusively as a thank-you gift together with the brand-new "Live From the Fog City Blues Vol.2." We'll listen to tracks from the new compilation, and KALW General Manager Matt Martin will also stop by to play selections from his #PubRadioParty Mixtape.

Fog City Blues is off for the week, but the blues continues with a special two-hour edition of Mark Naftalin's Blues Power Hour, featuring recordings of guitarist Mike Bloomfield live at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. Mark will also play with selections from his infinite collection of blues 45s.  Blues Power Hour with Mark Naftalin ~ Wednesday, 4/02 at 9 pm.
