Quinn DeVeaux & The Blue Beat Review

Oct 15, 2014

Today's local musician is Quinn DeVeaux & The Blue Beat Review. He calls his sound “blue beat,” but SF Weekly says that, when he sings, it “might as well just be called joy.”  Quinn DeVeaux & The Blue Beat Review will be opening for Megan Slankard on Saturday, the 18th of October at The Great American Music Hall. Music starts at 9:00 pm.

Singer-songwriter Megan Slankard’s most recent release, A Token Of The Wreckage, is "an edgy alt-rock release that is a breath of fresh air" (Maverick Magazine), "gleaming, grooving, and gritty" (Minor 7th), with "thoughtful construction and clever wordplay" (Performer Magazine). Megan’s next album will be revealed on October 18 at the Great American Music Hall with Quinn DeVeaux & The Blue Beat Review opening.

Today's local music is by Makrú. This San Francisco group blends musical influences from throughout the Latin World. They sing in Spanish and English, about reality and fiction, hope and joy, respect and love.

They’re opening for LoCura this Saturday, January 26, at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Makrú – featuring our very own Martina Castro on vocals – show starts about 8pm.

Rupa Marya, lead singer of local band Rupa & The April Fishes, is in the middle of an international tour, but it’s about way more than her music:

RUPA MARYA: We are conducting a seed exchange around the world, so we are taking a suitcase full of heirloom treasures that belong to life, belong to the commons. They are not for sale they are for exchange. So the first ten farmers that show up at our show with seeds that they saved to exchange can get in for free.
