Just Added! Solas, one of this country's leading Irish-American bands, will be stopping by the KALW studios this Saturday for a live performance. Led by talented multi-instrumentalist Seamus Egan, Solas has been called "exciting" and "brilliant." Thistle & Shamrock calls Solas "Irish America's most influential band." Solas will perform songs from its latest CD "Shamrock City," a tale of immigration, tragedy, corruption, and discrimination based on the true-life story of Michael Conway.
On Saturday March 29th 3:00 to 8:00 pm, KALW's On-Air Folk Festival presents five hours of continuous live music by some of the Bay Area's finest musical talent. Here's the line-up:
3:00 pm Brass Farthing is an ensemble of stalwart lads that sings songs, raises good cheer, and otherwise makes merry in the company of friends both old and new. Their songs cover many periods and they perform historical, traditional, and contemporary compositions in traditional styles.
Paddy O'Brien will be our special guest this Saturday 3 pm on "Folk Music & Beyond." Paddy will demonstrate his mastery of the accordion and talk about his remarkable musical memory for traditional tunes. He has collected more than 4,000 compositions—jigs, reels, hornpipes, airs, and marches, including many rare and unusual tunes. Paddy will open the Crossroads Irish-American Festival in San Francisco this weekend.
Join us this Saturday (10/26) at 3 pm for Folk Music & Beyond's 25th birthday celebration! The show started October 1988 and we've been going strong, thanks to your support and the support of our local music community. We'll stroll down memory lane and listen to highlights from the many live concerts that have taken place in the KALW studios these past 25 years.
