Jerry Day

You might expect that a Jerry Garcia-themed event in San Francisco would be founded by a Deadhead. You know, a stereotypical Grateful Dead mega-fan who followed the band around the country for years, dropping acid, wearing tie dye, and talking about world peace.

That’s not Tom Murphy.

He’s got a crew cut, drives a Nissan Altima, and is usually dressed business casual. He’s a loan consultant.

This jam is being led by Stu Allen, along with Mars Hotel. Allen and fabled organist Melvin Seals headline the 11th annual Jerry Day this Sunday, August 4th.

Jerry Day takes place in The Jerry Garcia Amphitheater at McLaren Park, in San Francisco’s Excelsior District. That's the neighborhood where the Grateful Dead guitarist grew up. Music starts about 11:30am, and there’s no estimate as to when it when it will end.
