Now here’s something you don’t hear every day – a Guitar Pull. The term seems to come from the Great Depression when a group would get together to play songs. Often only one player would have a guitar, so they’d “pull” it from each other to have a turn.

Today’s Local Music: The Rogers

If your band members were named Walter, Brent, Roland, and Rafael, what would you call the band?  Why, The Rogers, of course! Although they’ve only been playing together in public for about a year, The Rogers already have an album, which was released this past summer.  You can hear them live on December 17, when they play The Rocket Room, an intimate space inside of the famous Fillmore, in San Francisco.

Today’s Local Music: Grass Widow

There’s no leader in the band Grass Widow. That probably makes it easier for each member of this trio to suggest subjects for songs. Grass Widow, who you’re hearing now, call their music post-punk, and the New Yorker Magazine describes it as “pastoral melodies” floating over “trellises of spindly guitars.” If this sounds appealing, you can hear them live on Thursday, December 6, when they play at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco.
