It’s an odd thing to point out in the middle of San Francisco – and the street sounds nearby don’t let you forget that you’re in the heart of the Tenderloin, but as soon as you set foot in this park, you know you’ve walked into a unique space.

Would you like a break from hearing toe-tapping melodies?  If so, then the Mezzacappa-Phillips Duo may be just the sound you’re after. They’ll be performing their improvised acoustic experimentations as part of the Creative Music Series at The Luggage Store artist space in San Francisco tomorrow, January 31, starting at 8pm.

The door to the Luggage Store Annex in San Francisco's Tenderloin district is unlocked on the 15th of each month, rain or shine, fog or wind, and a converted tamale cart is rolled onto the sidewalk. The man pushing it into place is Michael Swaine.

“People either call me the Sewing Guy or The Roving Tailor,” he says.

There’s talk that we’re in the midst of a second tech boom in San Francisco. Twitter is opening its new headquarters in the Central Market district and residents are buzzing about what’s to come. Mayor Ed Lee has been courting start-ups since he came into office, hoping they’ll bring thousands of new jobs to the city.
