There isn’t much in the backyard of Eva Royale’s house. Two white metal patio chairs, her grandsons’ toy cars. What stands out most is her beloved 44-year-old cactus collection.

If you walk down Mission Street this weekend you’ll see family members holding pictures of loved ones in one hand and candles in another. You may see ofrendas--small altars set up to pay tribute to people who have passed away. It’s a tradition that’s been present in the Mission for years, but how it’s celebrated depends on who you ask.

Today we are featuring the harp-playing of Amelia Romano. She’s one of three young harpists performing at the “Festival of Harps, the Next Generation,” taking place this Wednesday, August 8 at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco. Music starts at 7pm.
