Oakland cops think city is too liberal

An internal survey of Oakland police officers reveals a deep disconnect between rank-and-file cops and the city they serve. Many officers said they do not trust the city's elected leaders and think they are too "liberal." A majority of city cops also complain that Oakland residents don't appreciate them.

Last week, an older East Oakland couple came home to find that their home had been ripped apart. The bed was knocked over, drawers were wide open, and expensive technology and jewelry with sentimental value were gone. Their back window was smashed and their small dog was terrified.

East Bay Express: Scary local election updates

On this Halloween holiday, some might find that their deepest fears stem not from ghosts or witches, but from the possible outcomes of the upcoming election. KALW’s Holly Kernan spoke with with East Bay Express co-editor Robert Gammon on this to discuss some of the scariest election battles in Berkeley, Oakland, and the state.

Gammon explains the controversy over Berkeley’s Measure T, which would allow for dense growth on six sites in West Berkeley. Local public employees union SEIU local 1021 wanted to endorse it, but the union’s county leadership voted against it.
