Enrollment now open for the KALW Audio Academy

KALW is calling for applicants for our 9-month radio journalism training program based at KALW public radio, an NPR and BBC affiliate station in San Francisco. This program is designed to give you a professional audio production education, tuition-free.

We’re looking for creative thinkers who are great writers and storytellers with a passion for covering diverse communities and some knowledge of the Bay Area.

On this week's episode of 99% Invisible:

The “driveway moment.” It’s when a story is so good that you can’t leave your car. Inside of a driveway moment, time becomes elastic–you could be staring straight at a clock for the entire duration of the story, but for that length of time, the clock has no power over you.

But ironically,  inside the machinery of public radio–the industry that creates driveway moments–the clock rules all.

Enrollment now open for the KALW News Audio Academy

KALW is calling for applicants for our 10-month radio journalism training program based at KALW public radio, an NPR and BBC affiliate station in San Francisco. This program is designed to give you a graduate level audio production education, tuition-free.

We’re looking for creative thinkers who are great writers and storytellers with a passion for covering diverse communities, and ideally have some knowledge of the Bay Area.

Radio Ambulante is a new Spanish-language podcast based at KALW. Crosscurrents host Hana Baba speaks with the host and co-founder of Radio Ambulante, local novelist Daniel Alarcón, about what inspired him to create a show that would bring new voices, new perspectives, and a new language to public radio:

This Bay Area Life

Sep 6, 2012

This edition of Crosscurrents is a special one-hour show dedicated to an interview with This American Life host Ira Glass by Hana Baba in KALW studios, and stories from his show that were based in the Bay Area. In that spirit, we’re calling this show This Bay Area Life (in which Hana tries to pull off a subtle imitation of Glass).
