KALW On-Air Folk Festival This Saturday 3 to 8 pm

Five hours of live music coming your way on KALW 91.7, hosted by JoAnn Mar, Kevin Vance, and Peter Thompson  We'll be showcasing some of the Bay Area's finest local talent on Saturday October 25th from 3 to 8 pm.

Here's the line-up:

3:00 pm  Linsey Aitken & Ken Campbell:  This talented duo from Scotland performs original songs inspired by traditional, classical,  and contemporary music, where historically all three genres of music were interlinked in Scotland’s musical identity.

Dougie MacLean's 40th!

From his humble beginnings in rural Scotland, Dougie MacLean has achieved great success in the world of Scottish folk and traditional music.  His recent honors include the OBE (Order of the British Empire) and induction into the Scottish Music Hall of Fame.  This Saturday at 3 pm on Folk Music & Beyond, we'll celebrate Dougie MacLean's 40th anniversary in music.  Dougie will talk about his close connection with the land and family and we'll hear some of Dougie's most evocative songs.

It’s a relic of the British Raj. But it is the SCOTTISH cemetery.

Tony McManus, the amazingly talented fingerstyle guitarist from Scotland returns to the KALW studios this Saturday 3 pm after a 9 year absence!  Not only is Tony a master of the Celtic guitar, he has explored other musical genres—jazz, Jewish, and now classical.  Tony will perform selections from his new CD "Mysterious Boundaries" and will tell us why he made the leap to classical music.

He's been called one of Scotland's greatest songwriters.  In this encore broadcast, Archie Fisher talks about the inspirations for some of his songs, his friendship with the late Canadian folk singer Stan Rogers, his collaborations with Stan's brother Garnet Rogers and British guitarist John Renbourn, and why it took him twenty years to record his most recent CD "Windward Away."
